The Indian community living in Rwanda gathered together in Kigali, Rwanda to celebrate their 76th Independence day on August 15, 2013.
The event activities included cultural performance, songs and speeches as well as flag raising.
Prisiding over the ceremony Joseph Sebastian, the chairman of the association said that the community enjoys strong bilateral relations between Rwanda and India.
He stated that the community is enjoying their stay in Rwanda.
Sebastian said the Indian community has contributed a lot towards the economic transformation of Rwanda. We are seeing many Indian investors coming to invest in this beautiful country and we are happy to be part of Rwanda’s socio-economic development.
The Ceremony was organized by the Indian Association of Rwanda (INAR), a platform that provides a common identity to the Indian community in Rwanda through the promotion of unity, friendship and goodwill based on mutual understanding and cooperation.
The 76th Independence anniversary marks the time when India gained Independence from Great Britain on August 15, 1947.
The Indian State Minister for External Affairs Preneet Kaur visited Rwanda in 2012 where he observed that Relations between Rwanda and India continue to grow strong.
In August 12, 2013 Su-kam Power Systems Limited, an India-based power solution company announced plans to install and commission solar photovoltaic equipment for 35 schools across Rwanda.
India’s telecom giant, Airtel, launched its entry into the Rwandan market this year and intends to invest $130 million in the near future.
In July 2013, Rwanda signed Rwf241 billion agreement with an Indian company, Punj Lloyd to develop 100 MW of peat energy in North Akanyaru, in Bugesera District, Eastern Province.
