Guiller Thomas- Belgian national and a UN volunteer is working for UNAIDS, a UN agency that works and coordinates all the response to HIV/AIDS in Rwanda.

Before coming to Rwanda he lived in Burundi for two years, where he was working for the Belgian cooperation, which made him travel to Rwanda before several times between 2009 and 2011.

Before joining UNAIDS Guiller studied history in the University of Brussels and went on to study development studies in a different University in Belgium.

Guiller finds Rwanda to be a very beautiful country, “it’s impressive to see the development of the city of Kigali- which is quiet a big the difference from 2009 and am sure everyone will agree with me that the weather is perfect.”

“Geographically I have been to Akagera and Virunga national parks to see the gorillas, which I found very amazing, but I just can’t wait to go to the Huye forest,” he says.

“The other things you see is the very developed city of Kigali and there after the rest of the places are more rural with very traditional people.”

Traffic in the country has been quiet dangerous. ”I don’t know how many times I have seen Knocked motorbikes or motorbikes knocking in to vehicles.”

The advantage he has seen about Rwanda such as Burundi is that the country is small creating easy access to other destinations.

He has also travelled to other African countries including: South Africa, Ethiopia, North and South Kivu, Uganda and Tanzania, but has so far greatly enjoyed being in Rwanda.

The Rwandan culture is one of the beautiful scenes he likes such that without concerts, he could go to great lengths of “gate crushing” in other people’s wedding ceremonies just to have a glimpse of the traditional dances.

According to him in Rwanda you have opportunities of making quick, easy, corrupt free deals, provide it’s legal.

I also like the politeness of people in this country, which i have experienced in many meetings, beautiful people wherever I go… I just hope to spend a longer period living in this country.

Rwanda should market its culture because it’s unique, especially coming up with more concerts or any dancing culture activities, where as whenever foreigners come to the country, they should have knowledge of  places to go and watch the traditional dance.
